(Dan Tri) – He highly appreciated Vietnam’s announcement of a net zero emissions target by 2050, and pledged to help Vietnam become an attractive destination for green investments in the next 20 years.

According to UNDP’s announcement, on December 7, the British Embassy in Vietnam, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the United Nations Development Program organized a workshop to announce the results of the 26th Conference of Participating Parties.

The recent COP26 conference was held from October 31 to November 13, 2021 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

At the Conference, British Ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward introduced the important achievements of COP26, most notably the Glasgow Climate Agreement Package with the participation of nearly 200 countries committed to strongly promoting action.

Speaking at the Event, Ambassador Gareth Ward shared: `Vietnam’s announcement of its net zero emissions target by 2050 has impressively demonstrated the country’s climate leadership, and sent

Mr. Ward added that in the future, the UK and its development partners are committed to promoting and supporting Vietnam to realize new goals through increasing proposals for financial and technical support.

`We want to support the Government of Vietnam to find a suitable combination of increasing public investment, mobilizing ODA capital and preferential loans to reduce costs for the country and introduce appropriate management measures.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha outlined in more detail Vietnam’s commitments announced by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at COP26 and Vietnam’s subsequent actions to implement those commitments.

At the Summit of World Leaders within the framework of COP26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh announced strong commitments to address climate change, including emphasis on government resources.

Vietnam has also participated in important declarations and initiatives on forest protection, transition to clean energy, adaptation support for local communities and reducing methane emissions.

Ms. Caitlin Wiesen, Chief Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Vietnam, said that UNDP is committed to working closely with the Government, development partners, businesses, scientists, women, and young people.

`This will be complemented by simplifying regulations to enable the business sector to fully contribute to a people-centred green economic recovery,` Ms Wiesen said.
